Here's the thing. Everyone loves to complain and whine about the various people who are on the ballot for this upcoming fall. And this may very well be a monumental election, with Clinton possibly becoming the first female president, and with Trump representing the Republican party as a non-politician (and highly controversial one at that). Yet, before the primaries, when there was a much wider variety of options, people still loved to whine and complain about pretty much everyone on the ballots. Well let me tell you something: if you voted in the primaries, you are part of the reason that these two candidates are our current options. And if you didn't vote in the election at all, then you are equally responsible for who is on the ballot for November.
That may seem harsh, but I have heard too many people of our generation say how they didn't vote or aren't planning on voting, and then they turn around and complain about our potential presidents (as well as all other elected positions, of course). You may think that your one vote is insignificant and that it won't matter if you vote or not. But you're wrong. It absolutely matters, and if every person our age who thought that would actually go out and vote, it actually would make a difference. Maybe if more people voted in the primaries, we would have more likeable candidates on the ballot.
With all that said, don't just jump on the bandwagon because of things you hear from your friends or family. We are at the age now where we can make our own decisions, backed up with reliable facts. So watch debates, read articles, get informed on the candidates. Be an informed citizen who is responsible for your own decisions.
It's sad that our democracy is at a point where no one seems to be happy voting for either candidate. Everyone says that they won't vote because they don't like either, or if Trump is elected they will move to Canada, etc. Well this is a democracy after all. This means that the position we are in, is brought on by ourselves. Obviously enough people liked Clinton and Trump enough to get them this far in the process. So my suggestion to everyone is this: make a choice and stop whining. Take a good hard look at the options that are left and when I say that, I don't mean to look at only the negative media posts, because those are overwhelming. Look at the facts, what each candidate is trying to do, and how they plan to accomplish it. And then go and VOTE. A lot of people can talk but nothing will happen unless people take action. Be part of making that difference.
