During my freshman year here at The Capstone, if someone had come up to me and said that I would have a weekly column or that I would be writing about anything political, I would have laughed. However, times are changing, we are torn between two absolutely horrible, unqualified candidates, but we are alive and thriving nonetheless.
In a time where I feel everything is extremely polarized, I shall try leave my actual political beliefs out of this, because I am not here to talk about whether I want to #MakeAmericaGreatAgain or if #ImWithHer. I am here to talk about the importance of voting.
Our country is in a very transitional state right now, because if another Democratic president gets elected then it will shape the face of politics for years to come. Our government has never been more unstable and when our founding fathers established this nation, in my opinion, they did not foresee it functioning the way it does today. However, I would like to make it clear that I am not necessarily saying that a democratic president would be bad, but for those of you that are or think you are republican need to take note that this election is extremely important for your party.
There is also a lot of talk about how horrible both Hillary and Trump are, and that people are opting to just not vote because they hate both candidates. However, it is important to look past both of their personalities and more so at their platforms. One of the luxuries of living in America is having the right to vote, and far too many of us take that for granted. I do not mean to quote Trump here, but in order to make America great, we need to recognize that it is our civil duty to vote. So many people argue that their voice is not heard, but I think that this how we can make our voices heard.
So if you are a Democrat, #GetWithHer and if you are a Republican #MakeAmericaGreatAgain. Our generation is about to take over the reins of this country, and it is our time to fix what our parent’s generation ruined. Educate yourself on this election so you can get out there and vote!
