Some people heavily edit pictures of themselves, and then post them online. Editing your photos is very bad for your self esteem because it makes you feel like you need to fix something with yourself because there is something wrong with you. There are editing apps such as FaceTune and and programs such as Photoshop that people use to edit the way they look.
Average girls on Instagram are not the only ones that need to stop retouching pictures. Most clothing companies edit, Photoshop, and retouch their models. One company that is known for doing this is Victoria Secret. Not only does Victoria Secret only represent one body type with their models but they also Photoshop their models to make them look better. Girls see images of Victoria Secret models and other models and they want to look like them. But how can a girl look like the girl in the magazine when the girl in the magazine does not even look like the girl in the magazine?
There are some people that are taking a stand against this. Everywhere we look there are advertisements. They are everywhere. They surround us and consume us. We may just brush them off but they affect us more than we think. Many advertisers use Photoshop as a tool to enhance the picture of the product they are selling. Photoshop is not just used by advertisers, though. In today’s digital world everyone has access to it and it is used by many people. We are becoming a society that is abusing Photoshop. Everyone is taking it one step too far. This was not the original purpose of Photoshop. Originally Photoshop’s use was just to simply adjust the lighting of pictures and and retouch minor inconveniences that distracted or took away from the photo. Now Photoshop is used for everything. It also is not just used for color correction and fixing minor details. People use Photoshop so much now is it completely distorts the picture to create an entirely new image. People that are overly Photoshopped look like an entirely different person. Seeing Photoshopped images everywhere can be damaging to people’s body image.
