Philosophical Questions Asked By The Rain

It's a rainy day here in the Fort. Clouds are looming as the rain slowly falls on my window sill. To my left is my charging iPhone and to my right, a bag of Brookside acai and blueberry chocolates. Like how some people have shower thoughts or even late night thoughts, my imagination is usually sparked by a rainy day. Here are some things that have gone through my mind today.

1. Why do I walk diagonally up the stairs of the Mary Couts Burnett Library?

Why can't I just walk straight to the doors rather than at a 45-degree angle?

2. How much wood can a woodchuck chuck if it could chuck wood?

Don't you dare say "a woodchuck would chuck as much wood as a woodchuck could chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood." I want the exact measurements, not some phony estimates!

3. Why was "Twilight" so successful?

It's basically "Beauty and the Beast," but with vampires and werewolves... Those copycats, or should I say, those copy-BATS!

4. Why is that part of my face where my nose meets my face called the "bridge"?

I know my nose may be a little big, but no one's using it to cross the Hudson River any day now.

5. Why am I so awkward around attractive women?

I lived with women my entire life and that has not helped whatsoever.

6. Why is a businessman/media personality running for office?

We're not The Simpsons, or are we?..

7. I was born in New Jersey, raised in Utah, and go to college in Texas. Does that make me an all-American?

#BornInTheUSA.

8. Why does everyone hate the Yankees?

We've won the most World Series Championships, been in the most World Series Championships; we had Babe Ruth, Yogi Berra, Micky Mantle, and Derek Jeter.

All of you haters are just sore la-hoo-za-hers!

9. Is TCU's hand sign suppose to represent a Horned Frog?

Like. How?

10. What language are the adults of the Peanuts cartoons speaking?

Wawa-nese?

11. Is Maroon 5 made up of five people that have crimson skin or 5 people stranded on an island?

Really makes me wonder.

12. Why does February not have at least 30 days?

What a rebellious month.

13. Why is "fetch" not a thing?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
