During the Summer, the only thing college kids have playing on a loop in their head is the countdown they have created for move in day. They miss their college friends and the times that they had in their college town. The time spent home with friends and family is always taken for granted and missed a lot during the first semester.
1. Pets.
This is a given. The only family member you can’t take with you and you can’t text when you’re missing them are the furry friends that you live with at home. A pet’s companionship is something that is dearly missed when you are miles from home on your own.
2. Friends.
While college friends are great and could be some lifelong friends, there is nothing like the friends that you went to high school with. The inside jokes and the memories that you have shared are enough to last you the entire summer.
3. Family.
Family is the number one over looked aspect of being home. You are so used to coming home to a full house that something feels like it is missing when you return to dorm that is only you and one other.
4. Home-cooked meals.
Even if your dining hall has the best food in the state, eventually you will get bored of the same food every day for a year. You’ll begin to miss the dinners you complained about at home.
5. Time alone.
Most standard dorms only have one room for two people to sleep in. This eliminates any chance of having your own space, or somewhere that you can fully be alone in. Even if your roommate is your best friend, there is nothing wrong with wanting time alone every now and then.
6. Local food.
There is nothing like the food in your hometown. For me, the pizza and bagels in New Jersey are what I miss most while I’m in Florida for multiple months.
7. Familiarity of your hometown.
Whether it is your first year or third at college, there are still places around your college town that you are not fully familiar with. Back home you know every street and at least three different routes to get to any location.
