A Pep Talk For When You're Feeling Down

Bad today, better tomorrow.

Maybe you’re having a rough day, or a rough week, or a rough month or a rough year or a rough life. Whatever it is, maybe you feel beaten down. Maybe you’ve never felt so defeated in your life. And that’s OK. Well, obviously it’s not OK, but it’s OK to acknowledge that it’s not OK. Basically, it’s OK to not be OK. It’s healthy to acknowledge that this one particular moment sucks. Allow yourself a little bit of time to wallow in it even. But eventually, to feel OK again, you have to remember that it’s just a bad day, not a bad life.

The world is not out to get you, and thinking that will only set you back further. Think about where that negativity will take you: nowhere. Let it motivate you, not debilitate you. Take a deep breath. Let it out. That’s how you breathe. That’s how you start again. You take your breaths and you get up off your ass and figure out how you are going to make this better. Look at you. You are the result of millions of years of beings and people not giving up. So get up and make them proud. Make yourself proud. Whatever you believe in, make sure you believe in yourself the most. Nothing will take you as far as your own two legs and your mind going a mile a minute.

I know it’s hard when you feel like the earth is caving in on you and every bully from your past comes back to haunt you. Your to-do list for today looks like it never ends and, somehow despite your efforts, nothing is going right. It’s not a punishment; it’s a challenge. And who are you to back down from a challenge? Who are you to lie down and die when the world faces you with something difficult? You’re a fighter, so go ahead and deal with this the only way you know how: fight. You’re a force to be reckoned with, so, dammit, act like it.

This world wasn’t made with you in mind and vice versa. The occasional natural disaster in life is a guarantee but what counts is how to push through it. You do what you have to do and don’t apologize for the way you choose to get through it, so long as you make it out on the other side. You are fierce and strong. You are bigger than this and you will not let it define you. What defines you is your strength and power. Stand tall and face tomorrow or the rest of today with bright eyes. You got this.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
