Life can get pretty hard. We all have days when we feel as though nothing is going right and nothing will ever get better. When we find ourselves drowning in sadness, anxiety and negativity we have two choices: we can let the pain get to us, or we can turn the pain into fuel to help us get past these storms of bad times. Although difficult times don't go away right away, there are little things we can do every day to bring more positivity into our lives. These things aren't 100 percent guaranteed to make you feel better, but they may help.
When you wake up in the morning, tell yourself that it is going to be a great day.
It may sound silly, but if you start your day by saying out loud that it is going to be a good day, chances are your day will be a great day. And who knows, it may end up being the best day ever.
Compliment yourself.
We often spend so much time complementing others that we forget to compliment ourselves. Take one minute out of your day to remind yourself of how awesome you are. You deserve to feel good about yourself.
Take a moment each day to reflect on the day and pick at least one thing you are grateful for.
Even on our worst days, it is possible to find something we are grateful for. Taking a moment to acknowledge the good things in life rather than focusing on the bad is healthy and will add some positivity to your everyday life.
Do one thing for yourself everyday.
We, sometimes, get so caught up in school and work and doing things to make other people happy that we forget to do things for ourselves. Whether it is listening to music or painting or reading, taking the time to do something you love can brighten up your day!
Remember that these bad times will not last forever.
It may take a while, but these bad times will go away. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but someday they will. In the meantime, stay strong, stay positive, and remember that you can get through this.
On her 1989 World Tour, Taylor Swift gave inspirational speeches every night before performing her song, "Clean." I think it fits in with what I have been talking about so I am sharing it with all of you.
"When you are having one of those horrible moments, or those long strings of gray, rainy days that never seem to get brighter, or when you are doubting yourself or where you’re going, I hope you look in the mirror and remind yourself of what you are, and what you are not, okay? What you are not? You are not the opinion of somebody who doesn’t know you. You are not damaged goods if you’ve made mistakes in your life, and you are not going nowhere just because you haven’t gotten where you want to end up yet. Let’s talk about what you are. You are someone who is wiser now because you’ve made mistakes. You are someone who is brave enough to take the chances you have to take to make mistakes in life, because those choices are the same things that will make you successful -- being brave. I think in 25 years I keep learning every single day, but one think I do know for sure is that going through painful situations is awful but it does make you stronger. And walking through a bunch of rainstorms is horrible at the time, but when you put one foot in front of the other and keep going if you make it through that, it doesn’t make you damaged. It makes you clean."
I believe in you.
