It’s time to have the period talk.
As a fellow female, I fully comprehend the struggles of menstruation. Cramps, back aches, mood swings, bloating, acne; not to mention the hassle and expense of feminine hygiene products. I will admit, it is not a time of the month I, or anyone else, looks forward to.
But I can’t deny that I have a little pet peeve about how significantly women choose to complain and over-dramatize the symptoms of PMS.
One can absolutely argue that complaining and joking around (for example: about how much your mood swings make you want to break all the laws) is an effective way to cope with the stress and hormones that one is experiencing. Making jokes to lighten a situation definitely is helpful in many cases, but it’s taking a dark toll on women and how they are represented in society today.
Periods give me funky mood swings, but I definitely don’t feel like “I hate everyone.” I don’t “want to kill everyone.” And I certainly don’t want my period symptoms to be an excuse for being rude to my friends and family.

“Women are more emotional, and we have PMS that affects our thinking. I would only support a woman leader if her No. 2 was a man who could check to make sure she was being logical and giving a rational option.”
“I don’t see how a woman could be an effective president if her biological machine could affect her decisions.”
Ladies, do you truly believe that you are incapable of mental functioning during your period? You don’t completely change your personality, do you? It’s as if people believe that the moment the uterine wall starts shedding, all hell breaks loose.
I’m pretty sure I’ve never heard a news story such as “Woman has period and decides to go on mass killing spree” (notice how this sounds like the title of an Onion article).
Also, notice how we never ask males if they are emotionally fit to be president. Men certainly can be aggressive. How do we know they won’t start World War III when they get a spike in testosterone?
My point is that periods are normal and they do not cause chaos in the world. And when we females over-dramatize how we feel during our periods, it gives others an opportunity and an excuse to oppress us. Women and their incredible capabilities are not limited by their monthly menstruation symptoms (which is clearly demonstrated in every Tampax commercial), so let’s stop pretending like we periodically turn into immoral beasts who can't be leaders.
