Be you.

It’s easy to compare yourself to others around you. If you could only have her arms, her legs, her flawless skin maybe you would be more “attractive” or more “well-liked”. This is just not the case.

Sure, you could learn how to apply your makeup better or exercise more often, but that will not change anyone’s opinion of you. The only real way to make yourself feel better is to change your opinion of you. If you don’t like the way something looks or feels, do something about it, but do it because you want to. You can’t change yourself to fit the image of another person. It doesn’t work like that. You are your own, no one else’s. Being confident in yourself should include more than what you look like anyway. It’s a way of life. It’s how you contribute to society also.

Can you look at yourself and know that you’re a good person? Are you kind and caring? Loyal? Do you know right from wrong? Do you feel content with the way that you treat others? How do you help others, if at all? Do you build others up or tear them down? These are the most important aspects of who you are.

It feels amazing to look in the mirror and love what you see, but it’s equally as great to be able to look inward and know that you’re a good person too, that you do your best at everything. So sure, it’s easy to compare your appearance to those around you. It’s so easy to pick and prod at yourself about the smallest little details. You’ve heard people say things about the way you look, but none of it matters. You could be the most beautiful human being to walk this planet, but if you’re a bad person and treat people poorly, none of it matters.

What other people say has no real effect on you if you know who you are. If you know that you are kind and caring, and if you know that you’re doing the best you can to be loving towards everyone, then what you look like doesn’t matter. If you find that there’s something you want to change about yourself, then by all means do it, but make sure it’s what you want. You were not made to meet the needs of other people. You are beautiful and unique in your own right. None of this matters if you don’t think positively about yourself, if you don’t know your worth.

So it doesn’t matter what kind of arms or legs or skin you have. It only comes down to how you treat others and if you’re genuine. You can go through life and not give a single thought as to what anyone thinks about you because the only opinion that matters is yours. You have to be able to wake up everyday knowing that you’re doing good to those around you. You have to look in the mirror, look inward, and know that what you’re doing makes you happy. If you have a positive opinion of yourself, it will show. So no more comparing. No more wishing you looked like someone else. Be yourself, and if you don’t like it, fix it. You’re the only one who can make a change, no one else. You have to be able to look at yourself and know that you are exactly who you want to be, and that’s all that really matters.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
