Through the awkward stages.

Dear Young Grasshopper,

You have just entered your first year of middle school. It’s okay to lose some of your friends to their new clique. I am here to tell you that it is okay that you are losing touch with some of the people you thought would have been your “best friends” till the end. This is the start of something new (hint High School Musical reference). It’s the beginning of new friendships, goals, and talents. Throughout middle school you may run into a group of people who brought nothing but negative energy into your life, and there may be girls that think you aren’t "cool." They are wrong because you are good enough. You will soon find out who you are as a person, but you will find out more about that later on when you are in High School. Along the way you are going to get more involved with your goals and your career. Even though you may find yourself growing in love with theater, it is okay because this is what makes you happy.

After you graduate you will move on to high school. Your awkward days are now over. In high school you will get into a few misunderstandings. Do not let drama interfere with your happiness because it could only stress you out. Do not let people underestimate you and put you down just because you dress nice, or otherwise act super classy. Little things like this could break you down easily.

Moving on to friendships, You will soon meet two friends that will change your high school life forever. They will tell you when you are wrong, and give you the greatest advice. These two people will never beat around the bush and will be honest since you are a little stubborn and need to be faced with the facts. Towards the end of your time in school, you will find a friend group that will appreciate you for who you are and accept you as a person.

As for careers, in your last two years of high school, dance will not make you as happy like it used to be. You will start to dislike the environment you are dancing in and react very negative towards it. You may be devastated hearing that you will no longer be dancing, but you will have exciting things coming towards you. In your senior year of high school you will embark on a career booster. Landing an internship at one of the top modeling agencies in New York City, meet editors at Teen Vogue, and learn the value of making your own money and a name for yourself.

Now, you may be wondering why I haven’t mentioned any boys in your future, that’s because you will not get that much attention from guys till you are in the middle of high school. Furthermore, some of these so called, “things” you have with boys won’t last or work out for reasons I will let you discover. You may feel some type of way, yet you will have that one friend who will be there for you when you need her. She will be available whenever you send that frightening text, “Can we facetime?” (this famous text will move on with you through college, for your information).

Lastly I will end this letter with how much you will grow throughout the years. You will start to learn to accept things for what they are, and most importantly accept yourself. You will come to the point where you don't care what people think about you, or what you even do. You are the only one in control of your life. If you want to know what happens after high school, stay tuned young will to be.

X,

Your older self

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
