Dear Mom,
There are no words to adequately thank you for the love that you give me, and sometimes I feel like I don't tell you enough how much I appreciate you. So, I wanted to take the time to try and do so, even though you deserve far more than some typed words on a screen.
Thank you for loving and supporting me in everything I do. Usually I don't realize how much your life revolves around your kids, and what a beautiful thing that is. We often leave you sore from standing on your feet, exhausted, and feeling underrated for your work. However, I hope to start to do more. I hope that while you are cooking dinner, working, driving to pick me up from school, or attending one of our 1,000 sporting events, you remember these words: You are appreciated. You are hard working. You are strong. You are loved. You are noticed. You are teaching us how to love by the way that you love us.
I know my siblings and I are a pain sometimes, and I know that we can ask for a whole lot. Yet, you never complain about our craziest dreams and goals. You always want to give us what we want, so that we are happy. I truly don't know how you do it.
Thank you for reminding me that one day, I will have kids too, and that you can't wait to see how they treat me. When you say that, it's easy for me to look at all the good sides and moments that we have together, but I'm also reminded of my horrible sass, nagging, and constantly asking for you to do something for me (which sounds horrific to me for when I have kids). So my goal is to treat you as I hope for my kids to treat me.
Even though I don't say it often, and when I do you probably think I'm lying, but despite all of those moments, you are my best friend. You know my deepest secrets, pains, fears, and thoughts, and you love me so well through them. You know what to bring me when I am upset, and what to say to let me know I have your support. You have shared more laughs, cries, heartbreaks, and monumental moments with me than anyone else - and I'm so glad that it was you there with me.
So, mom, thank you. I'm sorry that sometimes my words and actions don't do the best job of letting you know how dearly loved and appreciated you are, because you deserve to know each and every day. Because of what you have taught and raised me to do and know, you have made me into a person that I am proud to look at and be.
At the end of the day, you are my best friend in the whole wide world, and I love you endlessly.
Love always,
Your sometimes rude, sassy, needy child - who loves you so much simply for who you are.
