Dear Younger Me,

I know you are scared for the future. You don't know what's in store for you or what to expect out of life. There are a few things that I think you should know before you start worrying. Take some advice from the almost-20-year-old you.

Don't worry so much about what you want to do with your life.

You have more time than you think to explore career and lifestyle opportunities for yourself. Also, you will discover so many new things in college that you didn't even realize were possibilities! Take the time you have now to be a kid and enjoy the perks of not having tough decisions like this to make. Trust me, you will have plenty of time in college to freak out about your future, and you will take every minute of it.

Plans can change, and they will.

You have the next 10 years of your life planned out and trust me, none of those plans are going to stick. You will have changed your major, your entire field of study and you still don't know what you want with anything in life. But that's OK! Learn now to take changes lightly and to not try to form such concrete plans. It will help you later on in life when you need to completely rethink what you want.

He's not worth your time.

You may think now that he is the greatest thing your life has ever experienced, but get out while you can. You will find so many other amazing people in your life. He's not worth the pain and suffering he will put you through. He also isn't worth the years of questioning your self-worth and wondering why you were never good enough. Listen to your heart; if it tells you something is wrong, then something is wrong. Your heart knows you better than you do.

Learn to be you.

You will spend a lot of time looking in magazines or at people you pass on the streets and wondering why you can't be like them. You will think they are smarter, funnier, prettier and more fit to survive in this world than you are. The thing is, as you get older, you will quickly see through their external personas and realize that they are not as amazing as they seem. No one is as fit to be you as you. You have grown, learned so much and you are an amazing person. You will come to love yourself, even though people have given you reasons not to. You have so many talents that you haven't even discovered yet. Trust me, you are perfect just the way you are. Learn this early in life and you will be better off.

Sincerely,

Your Future Self, Who Is So Proud Of What You've Become

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
