To my brother-in-law,

I would like to start off by saying how grateful I am that you are a part of my sister's life. Of all of the people in the world, I am thankful she chose you. She will always be my number one best friend, and it will always be hard to embrace the idea of you taking her from me, but I am very comfortable in your decisions to spend the rest of your lives together as a happy couple.

However, you should always know that I have been there since the start and I will always hold that against you. I was there through the skinned knees, the broken hearts, and the lessons learned the hard way. I was also there through the awards, the college acceptances, and the accomplishments regardless of how big or small they were. We lived together since the first years of our lives and we learned know more about each other than anyone ever will. She will always be my person.

Now that you are married, it is your turn to be her rock.

I know that you’re in love, I can tell by the way you look at one another. However, I hope you never stop falling in love. I promise you, there is more to her that you haven’t seen yet. There are memories she hasn't shared. Fall in love with each and every one of them. My sister is one of the greatest, most interesting people you'll ever meet. Never give up on learning about one another.

Promise me you'll know how to make her coffee, tea, and alcoholic beverages and recognize when she needs which one. Nurse her back to health when she's feeling down. More importantly, always make her fall in love with the reflection she sees in the mirror.

Keep her motivated and striving for success. Help her believe in her dreams by believing in them, too. Don't ever set limits for her, because she has far too much good to offer this world. Congratulate her on accomplishments and promotions and be sincere about it. No one likes a faker.

Appreciate her at her best and worst times. Some days, she may come crumbling into your arms and all I ask is to put her back together better than how you found her (sounds impossible, but make it happen).

Please don't take this as a threat. As cliché as it sounds, if she is happy, so am I. I put my trust in you to make her the happiest woman in the world. She deserves nothing but the best and I know you will give her just that. Most importantly, I thank you for pouring your heart and soul into the person who will always mean the world to me. Knowing that my sister gets to spend the rest of her with a gentleman like you eases my mind beyond my ability to explain.
