An Open Letter To The Month Of May

Let's calm down.

An Open Letter To The Month Of May

Dear May,

You’re wonderful, truly. You are the climax of my year of school work and in this particular senior year, quite a fun one. Grad night, prom, luncheons, and award ceremonies galore- a harvest of the hard work I’ve put into my four years of high school.

But can we like chill? For two seconds?

I love you May, but can you give me some room to breathe? I still have to finish AP tests and juggle work, ceremonies, community service, and the like. And as much as you want to fill your days with fun, you (and I) have this arch enemy that is trying to ruin all that. This enemy is any teacher that doesn't care that you are an extremely busy month and wants to make me squeeze in lab reports and projects and 20-page papers in between your packed hours. Feel free to bring these teachers some intense seasonal allergies and give me some substitutes and free days.

Also, May, my sweet, sweet May, can you give me some reminders? A couple heads up here and there? I'm a busy girl involved in many things. You know when this form is due and when that RSVP needs to be turned in, so if you could just give me a nudge when I should do something, that'd be great.

And by the way, can you tell your buddy August to step back. Right now I’m trying to survive you. However, August wants to get in the picture way too early. Class registration, orientation, forms, and fees- August just thinks it’s too important. I understand that the prep for August is definitely needed, but If you could tell him to go wait around with June or July, that’d be helpful.

So thank you May for delivering some of the memories I will hold near and dear for the rest of my life, but please, please slow down and let me enjoy them.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

An exhausted senior

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
