An Open Letter To The President Of My Sorority

To my amazing president,

I know I haven’t really made it public, but I look up to you in so many ways. You are a role model to not only me but to all of our sisters. Not many people know how much you do for our chapter and our organization as a whole, but I’m just writing to let you know that all of your hard work is not going unnoticed. Here’s to you, Prez, and all that you do for us.

Thank you for being there to give advice.

Whether I’m struggling between which executive position to apply for or which selfie to post on Instagram, you cover all grounds. You’re always willing to help me no matter what issue I come to you with. You’re there for me every step of the way. Your words of advice apply to so many different aspects of my life and for that I thank you.

Thank you for taking the heat.

I think it’s safe to say we all have made our fair share of mistakes. However, you’re the one who takes the blame time and time again. When you accepted your position as president, you knew that you would be held accountable for all of our potential mishaps. The responsibility that you demonstrate proves not only how mature you are, but how much you care about all of us. You’re willing to take our heat and for that, we are all so grateful.

Thank you for being a representation of us.

When it comes down to it, you’re the face of the chapter. You represent us all every single day, and I can’t think of a single person who would do it better than you. Because of the person you are, you make us look strong, passionate, and enthusiastic about Greek Life. You make us look mature, put-together, and involved. I’m so thankful for how you portray yourself and every single one of us.

Thank you for your dedication.

I can’t imagine how hard it must be to be to balance your presidency, as well as school, work, friends, and family. You have so much on your plate, and yet you’d drop it all at any given moment for our chapter. Your dedication to each and every one of us has made me realize that joining this sisterhood was one of the best decisions of my life.

Thank you for inspiring me.

Thinking back to bid day, I never pictured myself as a leader of any kind, especially within our sorority. I just figured I’d wear my letters, go to events, and do the bare minimum. I never once considered taking on a leadership role. However, you have inspired me to do big things within our chapter. Because of you, I could see myself being president one day, and that really means a lot to me.

You are the perfect role model of what we all should strive to be, and for that I thank you.

Love always,

An Appreciative Sister

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
