As this day started, everything felt like it was going at high speed, with one thing after the other, everyone talking, but not really saying anything of importance. For me, this day started at 5am in the morning, beginning with a shower that led to getting my hair and makeup done and finally ending at the venue, where I slid into my dress and strapped on my heels.
This is a day that I have waited for most of my life. Not for me, but because it's for you. As I sit here and wait for you, I reflect on the life that I remember. I think about the fact that this will be the first time that I will ever see you with a wedding ring on your finger. I could not be more excited for you to marry the woman of your dreams, finally. And that's when I realize: you've found your person. Which means that I will, too.
You look so handsome in your suit today, Dad. I saw your eyes fill up with tears as she walked down the aisle. The only other person that I have ever seen your eyes fill with tears for is me. Dad, I am so happy that you are happy, and I am so grateful for this amazing woman that you have brought into my life. Even though she has affected your life in so many ways, she has also affected mine. This woman brought three little sisters into my life that I love more than I could have ever expected. This woman doesn't treat me like a stepchild -- she treats me as one of her own.
You have always been my idol, the one person that I look up to more than anyone else. You are my voice of reason. I want you to know that today, as I sit here waiting for you, I know that everything that I have seen in you is true. You have shown me love, compassion, empathy, patience (endless amounts of it), and honesty. The greatest gift you have ever given me is always choosing to believe in me. I want you to know that today you are choosing to believe in someone else for the rest of your life. That may sound scary, but in all honesty, I think that it sounds amazing. I know that it won't be hard, because she loves you just as much, if not more, than you love her.
Daddy, I love you so much, and I am so happy that you have found this woman to share this moment. Thank you for making it possible for me to share your joy.
