My Dearest High School Friends (all four of you),
Thank you for sticking around. We’ve been together for so many years and even though we’re at different colleges now, we always find our way back to each other. I know I can always count on you to be willing to hang out with me any time I have a break. Thank you for welcoming me into your dorm at your school for when I want a change of scenery. And for those friends who stayed close to home, thank you for clearing your schedule any time I tell you I’m heading home.
It’s kind of strange how we used to see each other every day in high school, and now I rarely see you. You were my go-to people for just about everything, and it was almost expected that we were hanging out over the weekend and every day of the summer. Our friend group was much more extensive before we all headed off to college, but thank you for being the ones to stick around. Thank you for getting me through my first couple months at college when none of us had any idea what was going on. Thank you for checking up on me when you can or when you think of me. And thank you for always asking who that cute boy is in my pictures and what’s going on in my sorority even though you may not understand it. Although, we don’t text every day now, I know I can still count on you for anything. We’ve all made new friends and have started planning for our different futures, but no matter what, I know our friendships are lifelong. I still plan for you to be in my wedding and I still plan for our kids to be friends one day.
I love that any time we’re together it’s as if nothing has ever changed between us. We jump right into conversation, make the same old jokes, and continue to have movie nights that turn into a gossip fest. The great thing is that when we all get together we have so many stories to fill each other in on. We could talk for hours to make up for lost time. By the end of the night, we’re all caught up on each other’s lives and everything feels normal. We joke about people we went to high school with and what they’re doing with their lives now. We reminisce on old high school memories only to question why we were all so immature. Even though we don’t feel like we’re growing up, we are and we’re all a little freaked out by it.
We helped each other grow into who we are through high school and we needed each other through the ups and downs. Now, we don’t need each other as much, but we still want to hold onto this beautiful friendship as we move through life. I want you to know that even though you aren’t with me, I hold our friendships close to my heart. I will always be here for you when you need a laugh, cry, or talk, because what else are friends for?
Love,
Your High School Best Friend
