10 Things I Want My God-Sister To Know

God-Sister,

I will be forever thankful that the Lord put your family in to my life! You are now the little sister I never had. As my family assists yours in helping you develop in to a good Christian woman, I am excited to watch you grow! We might have a 21 year gap between us, but I have lived through a lot and I hope that one day you find this article and read all of this advice I am about to give you.

Don't be afraid to be yourself

Kids are mean. You will face bullies everyday of your educational experience. You just have to let their mean words go in one ear and out the other. Just be yourself. God made you that way for a reason, so be that way. Why fit in when you were born to stand out?

You are beautiful

You are beautiful because you were fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalms 139:14). Men and other girls will tell you that you are ugly and that you aren't pretty. This is a lie! You are a child of God, and this makes you more beautiful than words can explain. You are a beautiful young lady, so don't let anyone tell you differently.

Live with no regrets

I want you to take this advice seriously. Live with no regrets. Want to try out for the softball team in middle school? Do it! The worst they can say is no. Don't let fear stand in the way of what you want to do. If it is something that the Lord wants you to do, he will allow it to happen. He has your entire life planned out for you. If you try out for something and don't make it, the lord will show you the reason why and point you in the direction of where he wants you to be. But try everything you want to try. Live with no regrets.

Put the phone down

You will probably be reading this on the Galaxy Edge 25, but you need to put it down. Go for a walk with your mother, shoot some hoops, or just do something that gets you outside. Your body will thank you for this. Also, life doesn't happen on a phone or computer screen. Before you know it, you and your best friends will be off to college and you don't know when the next time you see them will be. Put your phone down, except when you are taking pictures, and make memories.

You will make mistakes

First off, we are kids, and mistakes are our national past time. You will make plenty of them. Mistakes are OK, as long as you learn from them. Don't make the same mistakes over and over again. Mistakes often teach us lessons, so learn from them and allow them to help make you a better individual. Don't get frustrated over your mistakes. Nobody's perfect.

Don't force friendships

You are a wonderful individual and you deserve the best. If you have a friend that you have to force the relationship with or if you have to make an effort that they are not willing to make, then you don't need them as a friend. This counts for boys too, when you are old enough to begin dating. If someone doesn't make time for you, don't waste your time on them. You deserve the best. Don't let anyone make you feel like you don't.

Don't get annoyed by your Mom and Dad

I have known your mom and dad for almost my entire life now. They only have your best interest at heart. So, if they say you can't go to Becky Sue's party because you are having family time, don't fight it. One day, you will go off to college and you will graduate and have a life of your own. While you live at home, enjoy the times that mom and dad force you to spend time with them. You never know what is going to happen in life. Enjoy these times before they are gone.

Eat the cookie

In today's society, you are told that as a woman you are suppose to be super thin. The truth is that you can be however thick or thin you want to be. If you want to large-size those fries, do it. There are five Thin Mints left in the box and you only wanted four, but eat that fifth one. It is not going to kill you. Don't let society tell you that you have to look a certian way, because God made you a certain way and he loves you the way you are.

Do not abuse social media

I know I mentioned above to put the phone down, but if you find the need to be on Facebook or whatever the newest social media is, be appropriate about it. Before you post, think, "Is this something that I would want my grandma to see?" Better yet, "Is this something I want my future employer to see?" Whatever you post is online forever, whether you delete it or not. Be smart.

Be happy

Enjoy life! You only get one, so do what makes you happy. You are a beautiful and wonderful individual that deserves the best, so do what you can to make your life a happy one.

We may have a 21-year age gap, but that means nothing. You are stuck with me forever. If you need a night away from mom and dad, a shoulder to cry on or someone to eat ice cream with, I am your girl. I love you dearly and I hope you never forget that.

With much love,

Your God-Sister

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
