To my friends all over the world:
I miss you all. It’s been a while since we were together. Last time that we were all dancing to reggaeton, eating schnitzel, and speaking Italian, Trump wasn’t the president of the United States, the UK was still part of the EU and unfortunately the refugee crisis was only beginning. We are still just becoming adults but this world will be ours soon. I know we are all better for having known each other, and I have a few hopes for you (and me) as we this world tries to disregard us.
Never believe anyone who says that the world is scary. There may be some scary things in this world but scary will never be a way to describe it. The world is beautiful and big, it’s deep and unique, it’s trying and it is progress. The world is full of light, happiness and diversity.
Think about everything everyone says. Take everyone’s opinions into consideration and then take time to form your own.
Work hard for the things you believe in. Think about the problems you want to fix rather that “what job you want to do”. Work as hard as your can to fix the problems and better the world rather than focusing on going to work and leaving work. Work for your family and friends, but also work for strangers who deserve better.
Fall in love with people from other cultures. Keep going to bars in different countries and meeting new people. Talk to them. Learn. Dance. Make a new friend. Stay young and keep doing what we did when we were 18. Don't stop traveling now.
Worry about the planet. It’s all we’ve got right now. *Alternative option: find a way to move us to another so we can stop ruining this one for everyone else here.
Keep sharing your culture. When you shared it with me, it was like a new part of me awoke. I discovered passion for foods and music I never knew existed. Share it with others too.
Let others share their culture with you. Keep learning new languages, trying new foods, listening to new music, and discovering new stories.
Thanks for making me a better person. Someday we will make the world a better place.
