An Open Letter To Anxiety

Dear Anxiety,

There are moments where you completely take over me. You suppress by personality, shut-down my brain and force me to question every aspect of my life.

Anxiety is kind of like a shadow, you know that you have it's there, but you can only see it at certain times.

Anxiety makes you choose it over your friends. Instead of being around people who actually care about you, it will convince you to stay behind in your own thoughts and worries. Anxiety is selfish and attention seeking. So many of my relationships have been ruined by the little voice in my head constantly telling me that I am doing it all wrong and that I am ruining everything good in my life.

Anxiety will make you constantly question how it's so easy for something as small as to completely change the way you see yourself. I worked so hard to become the me I am today. I struggled through an identity crisis, heartbreaks and harmful friendships to develop into the person I strive to be -- someone strong. Anxiety will make you feel weak in one moment.

It's a toxic relationship.

But even though anxiety brings so much negativity to my everyday life, it is part of me. I know that it will never go away because taking away your anxiety is like taking a part of you away. Even though it sucks, good things about you wouldn't be there. Strength and resilience comes out of anxious people. You deal with something constantly and yet you're still here and finding those happy moments to live for.

It is up to you to be stronger than your anxiety. You need to find a way to use how anxiety makes you feel to better yourself and build up that resilience. I know that I personally need to find the people that won't turn away when I start to feel insecure, people who will help me become become the funny, strong, outgoing girl I know is the most genuine me. I know they exist because I have some of them already.

I may despise you, anxiety, but I can't and I won't let that hate translate to how I feel about myself.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
