Bellamy,
It’s me, your aunt. I’ve been waiting for your arrival for so long that I can hardly believe you’re actually here. I know we haven’t officially met yet, but when I saw your picture at 1:05 this morning I couldn’t stop smiling. I had never seen a more beautiful baby in my life. I love you so much, and I’m blessed to have you as a nephew. Welcome to our family.
I know you probably already know this, but you have a pretty amazing mom. She has been making preparations for your arrival since she found out she was having you, and she has done a great job. She loves you so much more than she could ever express, and she will always be there for you (even when it doesn’t feel like it). I know there comes a point in every boy’s life where he decides that his mother isn’t cool anymore, but I hope you always remember how much your mom loves you. She’s not going anywhere.
As for me, I want to be the aunt who you can tell anything to. I know that life can be scary or confusing at times, and it can sometimes feel like your world is being torn apart at the seams, but no matter what happens to you, I’ll be here. When you need someone to talk to, you can come to me. I’ll make you a cup of hot chocolate (or whatever it is you decide you like best) and listen to all of your problems and concerns. If you need advice, I’m there. If you need a hug, I’m there. If you need moral support, I’m there. Never forget that.
I want you to know that you can do anything you set your mind to, even if things don’t work out the first time. Don’t worry about failure. To quote a Disney movie called "The Haunted Mansion," “You try. You fail. You try. You fail. The only true failure is when you stop trying.” Don’t ever stop trying. Your dreams are much too important to waste.
Childhood is a wonderful time. Embrace it. Love it. Take a box of finger-paint into the bathroom and fill the tub with your beautiful creations. Your mom or I will snap some pictures before turning on the faucet and watch the kaleidoscope of colors twirl down the drain. When you’re 15 and going on your first date, I’m sure they’ll come in handy. Never forget how loved you are. I hope I will always be as much of a blessing in your life as I know you will be in mine.
I love you,
Auntie Beth
