I have always struggled with the fact that a number does not define me. I am obsessed with my grades. I can't even tell you how many mental breakdowns I have had about a test, the ACT, or not getting an A. It took me a while to realize it, but I've learned that I am not defined by a number. My grade point average doesn't make me the person that I am. Being only .02 points away from a perfect 4.0 does not make me a bad person. Getting a low score on a test doesn't make you a terrible student, it makes you human. A lot of times in my life I have let a number define me. I have deleted pictures on social media before because I didn't think I got enough likes (and I know I am not the only one who has done this). I promise that you are still pretty even if you don't get over 100 likes on your selfie. I have lied about my weight because I felt like it wasn't what it should be. I thought my class rank and GPA made me the person that I am. I am the person that I am because of my actions, beliefs, and the way I present myself. My GPA, weight, or number of likes on social media does not define me.
You should never let a number define you because I promise you it does not. When people talk about who you are, they don't say "oh this person has a 3.2 GPA, weighs 150 pounds, and has 600 followers on Instagram." They talk about your great qualities and what makes you who you are. Last year, I was struggling to get an A in a class and I broke down to my teacher about it . I will never forget when she told me that I would still be a great person and student, even if I didn't get an A in the class. Albert Einstein didn't make good grades in school, but he went down in history as a genius who changed our world. He definitely did not let a number define him. People do not leave a mark on this world because of a number . People leave a mark because of their actions, it doesn't matter if they were 100 pounds or 300 pounds. No one is perfect and there is no number that we should try to live up to. Do not define yourself with a number, define yourself with your actions. You are a great person no matter what the scale or report card says.
