There are a million different opinions out there on the best, most effective ways to lose weight. From cutting carbs to drinking green juice, people will swear by the tactics that have worked for them. But, what worked for some may not work for all and I think many people forget that. It may take some time of trying different methods before you find what works for you – and that's okay! If your attempting to lose weight and not seeing results, these might be some of the reasons why.
1. You aren’t eating enough
I think this is one of the biggest misconceptions when it comes to weight loss. People believe if they eat a bare minimum that they are bound to lose weight, but that simply is not the case. Depriving your body will actually cause it to hold on to any food or nutrients it can get and will slow down your metabolism. In order to successfully lose weight, you need to be eating a substantial amount of food that is rich in nutrients. This may be a smaller amount of food than your body is used to, but going completely hungry is not a solution.
2. You're exercising but still eating unhealthy
Exercise and healthy eating go hand in hand. However, eating healthy has a much stronger effect on losing weight than exercise does. Even if you are working out every day, if you are not eating healthy you most likely will not be seeing results. Many people say: "90% of abs are made in the kitchen, 10% are made in the gym." Try to slowly incorporate healthier options into your diet along with continuing your daily exercise and you are bound to start seeing results.
3. You're counting the wrong calories
Counting calories is a way for people to stay on track with their eating. But, a common misconception people have is that it doesn't matter what they are eating, as long as they stay under a certain number of calories. Just think about it, 1,200 calories consisting of cheeseburgers or pizza is not as beneficial as 1,200 calories of vegetables and protein. The ultimate goal is to stay in a relative range of calories while filling your body with healthy foods and nutrients.
4. You're not exercising the right way
Exercise is an essential part of losing weight. Everyone's preferences vary based on what types of activities they enjoy, from running to weight lifting. Something people don't realize is that if you do the same workout every single day, you will not see results. Over time, your body will get used to the same exercises and activities and will not allow for weight loss or muscle growth. Changing up your workouts every day is a very important key to seeing results, as well as having a perfect mix of both cardio and resistance training, like weight lifting.
5. You aren't being consistent
Consistency is key! Staying on track is hard to do when you are constantly allowing yourself a "cheat" meal. Now, that is not to stay having a cheat day once a week isn't okay. But, if you allot yourself one or two cheat days a week, try to stay as on track as possible the rest of the time. Cheating is essentially just holding you back from reaching your goals. Be wise about deciding when you want to cheat and when you need to stay on track.
6. You're drinking too many calories
Whether it's soda or alcoholic beverages, sugary drinks can add an excess number of calories to your daily intake. Being conscience of the amount you drink is important in making sure you don't exceed your calorie goals for the day. Cutting out soda and energy drinks can also drastically reduce your sugar intake which can promote weight loss.
