9 Things You Should Put On Your Summer Bucket List
With summer abruptly passing by we tend to look back and see that all that we did was work work work work work. While it's true that we need the money (we're all broke college students here), it's definitely important for you to be able to look back at your summer and have some great memories to get you through the cold months that seemingly last forever.
1. Go to the drive-in
Normally, the best movie-watching days are when the clouds are hanging over your house outside and you start to hear the pitter-patter of the rain hitting your windows. But that's not what we're going for here. Going to the drive-in brings a new excitement to watching a movie. Bring a big car, like a trailblazer (shout out Brianna), some pillows and blankets, and a few friends, and wallah, you get two movies for around $10. You really can't beat that!
2. Hit up a baseball game
Everyone loves hot dogs, peanuts, and some good old "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" background music. Really though, are you even American if you don't own a jersey from your local team? Lots of luck to the Philadelphia Phillies!
3. Find a new hiking trail
This is especially important for those of us who have just gained the "freshman 15," or for the people who just gained 15 pounds for no reason. Dig out your workout sneakers from the back of the closet and pack a backpack with some sunscreen, bug repellent, and water, and head off. I promise that the top (or even halfway up) of a mountain has a pretty breathtaking view.
4. Make a loaded ice cream sundae
I know, I know, I just talked about losing 15 pounds but ice cream really is my weakness. I'm not just talking going back to the freezer for a second helping. I'm talking cookie dough bites, Reese's peanut butter cups, chocolate fudge and whipped cream with a cherry on top.
5. Do an arts and craft
Pro tip: if you're in a sorority, summer is the perfect time to start crafting for your little. Right now you have ample time, will spend less money since you're spacing out your projects, and will end up less stressed out when it's crunch time in the fall. Now is the perfect time to make a cute canvas or order some matching letters for your new family member. If you're not in a sorority, maybe tie-dye a t-shirt or paint your room for a fresh feeling. If you aren't the most artsy person (aka me) grab a craftier friend and head to A.C. Moore.
6. Make sure to stop by a fair
There's tons of food and some unsafe rides waiting there for you. Grab some cotton candy and hit the tilt-a-whirl. Or just eat some greasy food and people watch.
7. Go to a country concert
My favorite is buying lawn seats and hanging out with my friends. It's much more low-key and the tickets are much cheaper. Put on a cute outfit with some cowboy boots, and sing "Play it Again" with Luke Bryan and lots of screaming girls.
8. GO TO THE BEACH
Whether you resemble the Kardashians and your whole family rents a private villa in Bora Bora, or you pack up a cooler with some snacks and take a day trip to the closest beach. It is literally not summer if you don't catch some sun and get trampled by some salty waves. Personally, I love to go boating when I'm near the water, so make sure to look into that if you can. Whether you own your own or rent one at the shore, it is a definite fun day.
9. Make sure you spend some time with your family
I know we all have busy lives, and a short summer to do fun things, but remember how much you miss your family when you return back to school or work. Just keep in mind that as you are so focused on growing up, your parents and grandparents are also creeping up in age. Cherish your time with them and the lessons that they teach you. Your family really has the only people who will always 100 percent have your best interest in mind. Always.
