As the new school year starts to round the corner, us teenagers start to scramble. The majority of us do not want to go back to school. "The summer went by way too fast!", is what most of us will say. Some will think, "What classes did they give me?" or "I need to go shopping for school clothes soon!" I, on the other hand like to make a promise at the beginning of each year. Something that I'll change that will hopefully benefit me in the end.
Almost like a New Years resolution but in the middle of August. Most of them, I'll admit, won't normally stick to or they'll end up failing miserably, but as I am coming upon my last year of high school I feel as though I need to make some changes:
1). Doing my homework the night before, not the morning of. For years this awful habit has rid me of receiving any high grade on my homework. I knew that doing my homework this way was sloppy and lazy, but I could never get around to changing it. This year, I'm going to start doing my homework on my free periods or any extra time I have in class. And maybe find a study buddy.
2.) Start studying for tests. I've never studied for a test in my life. Unless, you count making flashcards for a vocabulary quiz freshman year, then technically I've studied for one test in my life. This year I am going to start studying for tests at least a week before the day of the test. All the teachers recommend it, might as well give it shot.
3. ) Instead of going to bed really early, wake up a little later. I'm not saying wake up 15 minutes before the first bell, but I've come to realize I don't need to wake up at five in the morning to get ready for school. I can get up at six, be out the door by seven and have more than enough time to get to my first class.
4. ) Instead of going off campus for food, bring small snacks and a water bottle. I'm all for eating in the classroom, I love food. I also know that going to get lunch every single day is not only not good for me, but I can't afford it. I don't get paid enough to do that. Bringing a granola bar, a bag of fruit or even a huge bag of nuts is better than going to Subway or McDonalds everyday.
5. ) Participate in
class. We all know the kids who raise their hand every
second they get to and I'm not saying I don't want to be that
girl, but raising my hand or asking a questions here and there
can't be that bad. I have had countless occasions where I'd have a
question and would hope and pray that someone else would ask that
same question because I didn't want to.
Now these are just a few of mine because my list has become huge and I need to start crossing off a few off my list. Starting a new school year isn't fun for anyone, except when you get to buy new school supplies. That's always fun, am I right? No one wants to go back and no one wants to go through the late stress filled nights of studying or working on a project, but making small promises that you can actually accomplish can a big difference in the outcome.
