A new semester has begun. We are back to the reality that is tests, homework, studying, and that beloved stress that comes with it. When a new semester starts we as students like to set some pretty high expectations for ourselves, but we all know that as much as we would like not to procrastinate or not take as many naps as last semester, in reality, it still ends up happening. Oh well, there's always next semester.

1. Studying

Expectation

You're ready for that 4.0 GPA this semester and the only way you're going to get it is with some intense study sessions and no more procrastination. You got this.

Reality

Well, turns out you would much rather watch videos of dogs on Youtube and procrastinate all night or you just get frustrated and throw all your notes against the wall, whatever comes first.

2. Getting Organized

Expectation

This semester you are going to have your stuff together. You're going to put your $15 planner to work and really get a grip on life and your future!

Reality

This about sums it up.

3. Going Out

Expectation

This semester you're going to cut back on the partying. You're only going out Friday and Saturday if you have your homework done. You're all business this semester.

Reality

Wine Wednesday? Thirsty Thursday? Friday night house party? Bars on Saturday? Count me in!

4. Getting Ready

Expectation

This semester you're going to wake up early and look as presentable as possible.

Reality

Yeah, not happening. A sweater and some tights will do.

5. Homework and Reading assignments

Expectation

This semester you're going to stay on top of things and actually do all required readings and homework that way you won't have to bring your grade back up at the end of the semester!

Reality

You may start your homework, but let's be real you're going to be taking more breaks and you'll probably have to pull an all-nighter to get it done.

6. Eating out

Expectation

This semester is all about saving money and it won't happen until you stop wasting it all on eating out. This semester you are definitely going to be cooking at home more.

Reality

McDonald's, Burger King, Taco Bell, Wendy's...it's just all so much easier.

7. Working out

Expectation

You're actually going to work for that summer body you've been wanting. No matter how tired you are you will go to the gym!

Reality

Then again watching Netflix and eating Hot Cheetos does sound a lot better.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
