I could not wait to go to college. Senior year brought many emotions. I was ready to be on my own and I wanted a little bit of freedom as every senior in high school does. I think I was very anxious throughout my senior year to go to college because I was ready for something new so I thought.
Don’t get me wrong I’ve enjoyed college so far, but I miss walking through the halls at school and knowing everyone I encountered. I knew everyone and I also talked to everyone. I knew all of my teachers and faculty at my high school personally and for the most part, they knew me. I miss my high school friends a lot more than I thought I would.
I was also sad about leaving some of my friends because I was going to an out-of-state school by myself.
College is one of the biggest transitions you will make in your life. My advice to a high school senior would be to enjoy high school while you still can. You should also enjoy being with your lifelong friends as much as you can because before you know it, y’all will go separate ways.
I love coming home on the weekends and seeing my family and friends. To be very honest, sometimes I don’t want to leave home. I miss having my parents and my sisters around, but it makes coming home enjoyable.
It’s a feeling I can’t really explain. I love being able to come home from college and surprise my sister by picking her up at school or showing up when they don’t know I’m coming. Don’t get me wrong, I love my college town! I have always known where I wanted to attend college. I grew up visiting the town and we would come to games a couple times a year.
You wait for college all of your life. Some people can’t wait to get out of their hometown and others are just ready to meet new people. I was ready to make new friends. I never thought I would say this, but I do miss my hometown and some things about high school. Don’t take your time at home for granted because one day you might just miss it.
As Trace Adkins says, “you’re gonna miss this.”
