My Relationship Isn't Perfect And That's Okay

We're not "Goals"

My Relationship Isn't Perfect And That's Okay
Danielle Williford

Everyone is always talking about their relationship goals and for me, half of those seem a little foreign since I’ve been in a relationship for almost two years now. We were never really the couple that displayed a lot of PDA in public anyway. In the first months of course, there were endless amounts of texts, long late night phone calls, and little random presents but when you get past that cupcake phase things start to change for the relationship and hopefully for the better. When you move in together and start to see your other half ALL the time, you hardly want to hang on their every word. You may even feel like punching them in the face sometimes. It’s all a part of getting used to those changes. Love is all about making it through those days when you are so frustrated with your partner that you don’t even feel like talking to them but you make up because it’s become more of a commitment than a feeling. If a relationship isn’t work, I can promise you it won’t work out. It’s all about pulling through the rough times and still wanting that person in the end. The issue everyone has in today’s world of dating is that if one thing goes wrong they’re gone, expecting that a more perfect person will be out there for them. You wouldn’t do the same with a house. If a light bulb goes out, you don’t just move. You fix the lightbulb. It’s hard for people to understand when my fiancée and I have a fight, especially if it’s a bad one. They themselves wouldn’t be caught dead in the types of arguments that we have. That’s fine with me because at the end of the day we choose each other. When two imperfect people make the choice and commitment to love each other it’s a beautiful thing and when they keep making that choice day after day, it becomes a masterpiece. Love is a commitment not a feeling. When you're dating young, there's going to be plenty of times when you let each other down. There's going to be plenty of times when you don't feel like making it work. A couple that's meant to be will work through every obstacle life throws in front of them. The most important thing is to work through those obstacles together because letting others control your relationship is like watering a garden for a year or two only to pull up all the flowers because another person didn't think they were pretty enough.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
