Is it too early to already predict the Eastern Conference power rankings for next season?. Well with already a very busy offseason with the NBA free agency, I figured that it's a good time to reveal my power rankings for the upcoming NBA season.
From number 10 to one, here are my predictions of what the power rankings will look like the Eastern Conference.
10. Milwaukee Bucks: I expect for the Bucks to make some noise this season. Most of all their returners will be back including their three big men Jabari Parker, Greg Monroe, and Giannis Antekumpo ( the Greek Freak). They also added Matthew Dellavedova in free agency from the Cleveland Cavaliers who should bring some spark off the bench. I don't expect the bucks to be at the top of the list for the Eastern Conference but this team should be interesting to watch this year.
9. Orlando Magic: This team may not amaze you by any means, but I think this team took a step forward this year from last year. Even though they traded one of their best players in Victor Oladipo from last year, they definitely improved their defense for this year. Once Oladipo was traded from Oralndo to Okalahoma City, Oklahoma City had to give up Serge Ibaka. What Ibaka will bring to Orlando is some flashes on offense but he's like a stone wall on defense. He's an excellent defender as well as a great shot blocker. They also got Bismack Biyombo from the Raptors who was well known for his great series against the Cavaliers. Biyombo will also be a very good shot blocker for their team. Don't forget also about Evan Fournier who resigned with the team for big money and Nikola Vucevic who's a very good post man player who will bring versatility to the team. Expect a lot of great defense and blocked shots from this Orlando Magic team.
8. New York Knicks: Even though the New York Knicks had a very poor year this past year, there were a lot of welcome additions from free agency that should make this team a lot better for this year. The Knicks had many needs that they needed to address. They pretty much have all those needs taken up to this point. Their first need was that they got a new head coach in Jeff Hornacek who definitely should bring this team in a good position moving forward. They got a very good guard when healthy in Derrick Rose. Rose alongside all star Carmelo Anthony and rising star Kristaps Porzingis should be able to bring great chemistry to this Knicks team. They weren't done yet as the Knicks now also have big man Joakim Noah, Courtney Lee, and Brandon Jennings. With the starting five the Knicks now have, they should be able to compete with any team in the league.
7. Atlanta Hawks: Despite the Hawks losing Jeff Teague and Al Horford to free agency, they also brought in a big time center to their team as well. They brought center Dwight Howard and with already having forward Paul Millsap, they should be able to bring a dominating front court to other teams. This team should be able to make another push for one of the seeds for the NBA playoffs.
6. Miami Heat: The Miami Heat have made couple moves in the offseason that have changed their franchise. The first move was being able to resign Hassan Whiteside who in my mind is one of the best up and coming centers in the NBA. They did lose a very important piece however as they lost star Dwayne Wade as left to the Chicago Bulls. I think one of the reasons why he left Miami is because Wade is from the Chicago area. Miami still should be good despite Wade leaving.
5. Chicago Bulls: There' now a big three in Chicago for this season. Even though they did lose Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah, they brought guard Rajon Rondo and star Dwayne Wade alongside to play with Jimmy Butler. This team from the windy city will be very fun to watch.
4. Indiana Pacers: After many big additions from free agency, this team should not be disappointment. The pacers now have a backcourt of newcomer Jeff Teague and also Monte Ellis. Star Paul George and his teammates should be able to carry this team far in the Eastern Conference.
3. Boston Celtics: Out of all these teams in my top ten, the Boston Celtics should be a team to be a big time contender come the playoffs this year. Under head coach Brad Stevens, he was able to get his team to the playoffs last year even though they got eliminated in the first round. Now with mostly everyone returning, Stevens now has a big time player along with star Isiah Thomas to insert into his starting five. The team now has Al Horford who can play well in all assets of the game. Having Horford's presence should give the Celtics a huge boost in Boston this season.
2. Toronto Raptors: This team shouldn't come much to a surprise as they were one the best teams in the conference last year. I think with everyone returning including Demar Derozan and Kyle Lowry, this team should be able to make a deep run come playoff time.
1. Cleveland Cavaliers: Last year it was party time for the Cavs as they came back down from a 3-1 deficit to the high powered Golden State Warriors to win the NBA finals. The big headline was of course Lebron James as he was definitely thrilled to finally bring a championship to the city of Cleveland. Lebron, Kyrie Irving, and all the rest of their players are the favorite to be back on top of the Eastern Conference.
This is of course way too early to predict right now but with many big time moves this season and already with the NBA Draft concluding, I figure to list my early top ten rankings for the Eastern Conference of the NBA
