It seems to be a trend that many college students are now jumping out there and getting dogs. Having a dog in college is a huge responsibility. You have to stay on top of feeding them, grooming, making sure they get their daily exercise and, of course, loving on them. This is not an easy job. They tear things up, ruin flooring, and tear up the back yard. So why is everyone getting dogs all of a sudden?
Having a dog could potentially be the worst choice a college kid could make, but it could also be the best thing that has every happened to them. For me, getting a dog was life changing. I realized that I do not just have me to look after. Having a dog makes you grow up. Coming home every day, I have something to look forward to, someone waiting to greet me at the door. No matter what, they are always so happy to see you even if an hour before you got on to them for ripping apart your favorite shirt. They bring nothing but pure joy to your life… till you see they tore up their bed while you were out.
Dogs also know when their owner is going through something. When you're sad, they will just lay in your lap to comfort you in their own way. It is hard not to put a smile one when they stare at you with their big sad eyes because every dog has theirs. They can also be a great form of exercise because all they want to do is run and play.
Caring for this loving creature has made me learn a lot about myself. I encourage all students to get a dog to help them get through their four maybe five years of schooling. Now, if you can barely take care of yourself, please for the love of god do not get a dog. Save everyone the trouble and try to learn to take care of yourself ,first. I love ya' Remi, and I couldn't get along without ya!
