Can we all just stop and take a minute to relate? Relate to the fact that most of us will never be happy with our bodies. Every day we wake up, look in the mirror, and we want to change something. Whether it is wanting to have more muscular arms, a smaller waste, defined abs, or a firm butt. Why is this so hard and one of the most depressing things to think about? Why are we so obsessed with the way we look and most importantly the way we look to others? It sucks, it really does. Can you relate?
Not only do we think about it constantly, but also it affects the way we eat, the way we behave and what we wear. Eating can become such a guilty task. When you know you are hungry and your body is craving food your instinct is to go to the fridge or food cabinet, grab something to eat, and satisfy yourself. For some of us who struggle with our body weight, this is not an easy task. We think about what we are eating and how much time at the gym we will have to do to work it off. By the time we are done eating, we tell ourselves we are full; but, in reality, you could eat three cheeseburgers and still be hungry. You know what really gets under our skin too; the people that can eat three cheeseburgers throw on a swimsuit and be the best-looking person in the crowd. How does this happen and how come I didn’t get those genes? Can you relate?
Then comes the fat days where everything you own just looks terrible on you. You could put on your favorite top that always looks good to you, but for some reason today it doesn’t. For some reason that day your stomach looks bigger, your arms don’t sit the way you want them too, your neck and face look fatter than it did yesterday. So, you settle for the baggy t-shirt and leggings because that’s what you feel most comfortable in. Is it the cutest thing you own in your closet? No. But for some reason, right now in that insecure moment, it feels the most secure and will just have to do. Can you relate?
The time to hanging out with some of your best friends comes and you start to compare yourself. You love your friends and want nothing more than to see their happiness, but their perfect bodies are hard to look at when you look back at yourself and don’t see the same thing. When you are all getting ready to go out together you look at how great everyone looks in their outfits and start to feel bad because you don’t look like what they look like. Can you relate?
The purpose of this was to reach out to all girls and guys who struggle with their bodies; to realize that we are all feeling these horrible feelings and thinking the same thoughts. None of us are perfect and nine times out of ten you are not the only one in the room thinking about your body and how imperfect it is. It is okay to be insecure about your body, it is okay to compare yourself to your friends, it is okay to have a fat day because some of these feelings will never go away.
