So you've probably heard a bit about ban Trump has placed on immigrants and refugees from seven specific middle east countries. If you're hoping to understand this I highly recommend you find another article, although good luck because this thing is seriously convoluted. But if you don't understand why people are kind of upset about this, I've put together a few points that might help simplify the situation.
Trump's law bans citizens from Syria, Iraq, Iran, Yemen, Libya, Somalia, and Sudan. Now the terrorists that actually carried out acts of terrorism, like 9/11 were from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the United Emirate States. Go back to the first list, of the banned countries. See how's there's no overlap.
Now there is an argument stated that ISIS does have some control of a few of these countries, like Syria for example. However, these refugees are fleeing ISIS, they aren't a part of it. And let's do away with the notion that these refugees don't go through a vetting process because the fact of the matter is they do. It's a long process too and normally takes up to two years of interviews, paperwork, and proper investigation.
There were Syrian refugees who went through the long vetting process, and also had the correct paperwork. When they landed in the United States they were turned away because their country was on the list that is now banned. Some were put back on a plane to Damascus, the largest city in Syria. That's right, they weren't sent to another country where they could seek asylum or a refugee camp. No they were sent back to the place they fled from because they had reason to believe they, and their families would be killed.
On the surface, this ban could appear to be a ban on the countries to 'protect America', though a sad attempt at that. But if you watched Rudy Giuliani's interview on FOX news he explaining the situation you'll see the true story. He said that Trump called him and said he wanted to ban Muslims from America. He asked good old' Rudy if he could get together a group of people to figure out a legal way to do this. So they singled out Muslim-dominant countries, where the majority of the population was Muslim, and put those on the list.
It's important to note that being Muslim doesn't mean that your violent or a threat to anyone. Put it this way, statistics say that mass shooting in America is done mostly by middle-aged white American men. What if a whole bunch of countries banned white middle-aged white American men? Statistically how much sense would that make?
The fact of the matter is that one of the core principles America was founded upon is the freedom of religion and the separation of church and state. We cannot discriminate based on religion that goes against our basic principles. If you'r going to do that you better take down the Statue of Liberty (and everything that it stands for) and the freedom of religion and separation of church and state out of our constitution. Have fun with that. What you are doing, President Trump is not American.
There have been protests worldwide and even some leaders have spoken out against the Muslim ban saying the same basic message, America is better than this. They're right. America is better than this. America is one of the best countries on this Earth, there was a time when we were shining beacon and we can be again.
