Most runners have a place they refer to as heaven on earth. This place can be defined as when runners listen to music as they go for their daily jog, or sprint. Every runner has a personal preference on what type of music they should listen to that takes them to that happy place while running. Although a runner’s personal preference on the type of music he or she will listen to while running is important it may not be the music every runner should listen to. The music every runner should listen to is calm relaxing music that helps relax the brain.
The brain is made up of several different compartments that have different functions that each one is responsible for. According to Hewitt, the frontal lobe is the specific compartment of the brain that allows your brain to carry signals throughout your body through your spinal cord, and nervous system that produces physical functions throughout the body. To relate the frontal lobe motor function with the music every runner should listen to would be to show the relation between how a relaxed mind helps the runner perform better.
A runner whose body is calm and muscles are relaxed tend to stay warm, and keeps its range of mobility throughout over extortion and strain. A runner that is not calm while running tends to tense up, and this hinders the runner’s performance because when a muscle is tense it causes the runner to be more prone to injury as well as limits mobility. This applies to sprinting, and long distance runs. Listening to music that is slow like R&B music, or soul music are two genres that can help a runner go to a mental state of relaxation while running. According to Fuster, this may seem contradictory when it comes to sprinting, but studies show the more relax a sprinter is the slower they decelerate while sprinting compared to a sprinter who is tensed while sprinting.
Every runner should be more prone to listening to slow music because it helps relax the brain, which ultimately controls bodily functions to be more smooth and relaxed. If a runner is not relaxed, then the runner will not be at their best. Relaxed runners are at their best when it comes time for them to run.
