Archery is defined by the Merriam-Webster Dictionary as the art, practice, or skill of shooting a bow and arrow. But to me archery is a level playing field, and blank slate, an outlet and much more. Archery has given me a sense of confidence no amount of makeup, likes on Instagram, or my favorite outfit will ever give me. Archery has shown me this unshakable sense of badass that I never knew I had.
I started high school a shy girl who often let those around her flourish and kept herself small so she did not outshine others. Now a freshman in college, I stand tall and proud and dare not to make myself small in order to make others more comfortable. I am confident and no longer shy away from people. This sport has opened so many fantastic doors in my life. Not only do I have a job at Newbury Archery and a hobby, but I’ve found a family within Barry and his family, along with the entire community. I have made amazing friends who not only support my archery, but everything I do.
Archery has taught me that life is a lot like an arrow. Sometimes you have to be dragged backwards in order to move forward. You must not focus on the bad because if you do there will be no positive.
I’m currently shooting on staff for Newbury Archery and Elite Archery. I often volunteer for the Newbury and work their tent at fairs ( Goshen Fair, Goshen Stampede, Bridgewater Fair, etc). I began talking to more people, helping people, and shooting with kids. I was then offered a job teaching lessons for the shop. I have met so many people within this community and not found a single negative soul. I have made fantastic friends, and mentors at these events such as Barry, Ashley, Chris, Deno, Scott, Mathieu, and many more. Archery is a big part of my life, It is something I’m surrounded with 24/7 and I honestly wouldn't want it any other way.
