The Moments I Will Remember from My First Year at College

A year in review about the moments I will never forget.

As the end of the year rapidly approaches, I find myself reflecting on all the events that made this year so great. A few moments in particular stand out to me, I am not sure I will ever forget these.

1. Day One/Night One

While this day was jam-packed with activities, I can clearly remember the majority of them. From waking up in my bed at home at 6:00 am and loading all of my belongings into the car, to the hour and a half long drive that filled me with nerves and excitement. And awkwardly attempting to cram all of my things into a tiny dorm room with my new roommate (and repeatedly telling myself I can totally live in this shoebox). I remember meeting the people on my floor and in my mentor group (trying to be friends, but like not too friendly and weird them out). Saying goodbye to my parents (and refusing to let any tears fall down my cheeks). Climbing up into my bunk bed filled with hope for the next four years but desperately trying not to think about home. Finally, finding silent comfort in having a roomie who is feeling the exact same way.

2. The first time I could go to a frat

Oh, how I can recall this magical night so clearly. The excitement of going out for the first time. Spending hours getting ready and picking out the perfect outfit. Walking up to the front door with a flock of 10 or more girls all dressed to the nines. I can only imagine much we resembled the freshman stereotype. Nonetheless, it was a night to remember.

3. The First Final I Ever Took

God I was so nervous. I studied for hours on end in attempt to prepare myself. After getting about seven hours of sleep total for the week I wanted nothing more to go home and have my parents hover over me like I was their baby girl again. (Never thought I could miss home so much until that week.)

4. Coming Back from Break and Realizing How Much I Missed These People

I was excited to get back but the second I saw my friends I realized how much I had missed them. We sat in the common room for hours catching up and talking about how we could not wait for the first week back to be over so we could tackle the weekend together (typical).

5. My First Collegiate Game

Yes, again I was nervous. Even though I was not a starter it was still so amazing to get to play with a whole new team at the next level. Weeks of pre-season practice had led up to this moment, and getting to come out with a win felt great.

6. Sunday Fundays

Who said Sundays are boring? Some of the best moments of freshman year have been sitting around with my friends, relaxing and recapping on our weekend. We would go on drives to get good food and watch movies or catch up on homework. It did not matter as long as we all got the chance to be together and unwind. I hope things do not change in the next three years.

7. Realizing I am 1/4 of the Way Done with College

A thought that truly terrifies me. This year went by faster than I could have believed. I had a blast but I also learned so much. To think in just three short years I am going to be in the real word is intimidating. I intend to make the most of the rest of my time here with the people who mean the world to me.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
