Missing High School

High school is supposed to be so exciting. Your eighth grade year is spent looking forward to high school. New friends, more classes, prom, older guys, and being treated more like an adult. That's what every student in middle school thinks of. Truth is, I am a senior in high school and yes some of that is true, but there is also some bad stuff to even out the good times.

Freshman year starts out with your best friends from middle school. You promise each other to stay friends no matter what happens. Second semester of your first year, you don't even talk to those friends. A rumor started or drama over a guy and you lose them. You make new friends and start getting into new hobbies. You think you are just the shit in the beginning. A senior boy talks to you and this causes you to think you're in love. He only wants in your pants more than likely. You are fresh meat. Something new to explore. If he says, "I love you." know one thing. He doesn't and he is just gonna try to get into your pants. Teachers don't care if you have family problems at home. Get over it.

Sophomore year starts and you look back and realize how far you already came. Classes get harder and more friends start to hang out with you. You find your group that you fit in. This year you learn that boys are dumb and not worth the time. You tell yourself you're gonna work hard on your education that way you have a better GPA. Telling yourself that you don't care about what others say. Reality you never turn your back for longer than twenty seconds in fear of what's being said behind you. You are afraid everyone is gonna backstab you.

Junior year means PROM!! This year that's all that you think about. Whose gonna be your prom date? What kind of dress should you wear? What if someone else wear the same dress? You start counting down the days till you are a senior. You are excited to finally run the school. You can boss the freshman around just like you were. Your grades are the least of your worries. Its more of how long till the seniors graduate. Its your turn. Can this year hurry up already? Does my ACT score really matter that much?

Senior year starts and its all exciting. This is your year. You run the school. The count down till college! College is soon which means.... Parties!!! You are waiting for your eighteenth birthday! Tattoos! PROM! You start out determined to find scholarships to get your college paid for, but give up half way through the year. By Christmas you are done with school. The guy you were dating doesn't seem like your whole world anymore. He just keeps you occupied for the rest of your year. Waiting on those acceptance letters from your dream colleges.

High school has so many fun memories though. Your first time grinding with a guy at homecoming happens. You make so many friends at different sporting events or dances. Flirting with that senior boy you like. You realize who your true friends are also. Which is sometimes really hard, but its for the best. The food isn't as good as you remember the middle school's. Don't wish it all away too fast. Trust me.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
