It’s approaching the middle of July, meaning it’s officially midsummer. The Fourth of July has passed and you’ve basically done everything you can think of already. The midsummer slump is something we all experience once we’ve run out of things to do. Going to work and going home get old when you don’t have something to do to break up the mundane. Well, here are a few activities to do before the summer ends in order to beat the midsummer slump.
1. Have a beach/lake day
The cure for anything is salt water. Naturally you should go to the beach/lake during the summer regardless if you’ve done this one or not. There’s no shame in going over and over again. This time, have a cute photoshoot with floaters and whatever fruits your bring with you.
2. Amusement Park
Going to an amusement park is always a fun time. Pick a day out of the week or whenever is doable for your friend group and go to a park. It doesn’t have to be Hershey or Cedar Point, but somewhere with rides and a crowd. Go somewhere where you can forget about the real world and just enjoy the moment
3. Have a picnic
Having a picnic is a cheap and easy way to have a lot of fun. Just make a sandwich and bring some drinks to have a relaxing meal in the park or downtown.
4. Stargaze
If you had your picnic at night then it’ll be an easy transition into stargazing. Stargazing is a nice way to relax and unwind with your friends. It’s also the perfect scenario for the first kiss from your summer fling or the best setting for all of those deep talks you end up having over the summer.
5. Set off fireworks
It’s not the Fourth of July anymore but fireworks are still amazing. If they are legal to purchase and set off in your state, take a night to watch their beauty in the sky with friends and family. If you can’t get your hands on fireworks you can always play with sparklers.
6. Water balloon war
There are so many ways to fill water balloons faster now. So with the time saved you can have an epic water balloon war with everyone you know. Have everyone bring a bucket of balloons and their team, then release water balloon hell on the other teams. You’ll never know who won but you won’t care.
7. Successfully complete a Pinterest Craft
For some reason nearly everyone fails at these. I’m not sure if it’s the unexplained steps or the pictures that don’t show every detail, but these are so hard to do. Take the time this summer to successfully complete one. Maybe a DIY room décor or finding new ways to repurpose an old t-shirt.
8. Fancy Dinner
It doesn’t need to be at Wolfgang’s new restaurant or anywhere that’ll really break the bank. Dress up and go out to the city or downtown for a nice dinner with your group. It’s a good way to hang out, get a good meal and a reason to dress up.
9. Shop until you drop
You’ve been working all summer and have a hole burning in your pocket, so why not spend a little? Go to an outlet or somewhere that’s not your local mall and spend the entire day there. Try everything on and go into new stores. While you may not want to or end up buying anything, it counts as long as you get out of the house to do your shopping.
10. Pool movies
This is a simple way to soothe your inner mermaid and child all at the same time. Set up a projector outside that’s aimed at a flat surface and play whatever movies you’d like, preferably classic Disney ones. All of this while you’re floating around in the pool or hot tub.
11. Road Trip
It doesn’t have to somewhere faraway or exotic--it can be to the state or town over. As long as you’re sharing the experience with people you care about, then it’ll be fun. Take in the sights of wherever you end up and enjoy the day.
12. Music Festival
Although Firefly has past, and it’s a long ways from Coachella, there are plenty of local music festivals and concerts held in most towns. If you can’t find a local one, make your own. Sync up your speaker, make an epic playlist and invite over as many people as you can.
13. Ghost tour
This is a little bit out there but it’s really fun. If you and your friends are into being scared and the paranormal then this is definitely for you. Find a local one or go to a historical town where you know there are hauntings and go there. If you’re really trying to be scared then have a horror movie marathon beforehand to make sure you’re all nice and jumpy for the tour.
Now go out and beat that midsummer slump!
