“I didn’t want to admit to myself that I was struggling this whole time. I didn’t want others to worry. I didn’t know where to go, and I still don’t know where to go.”
Why is it always so hard to admit that you are struggling? As humans, it's in our nature to remain tolerant and persistent through the trials of life and its twists and turns. Yet, once we admit to others that we are crumbling under pressure, we are seen as weak and unable to handle certain situations.
However, that is not true. The truth is, we all crumble. Whether we like it or not, we are all going through something at any given time.
We are expected in society to remain calm, cool and collected even through the hardest moments. This kind of expectation adds on more pressure to strive for perfection and tolerance. We know that it isn’t possible to be happy all the time. The stigma around anxiety, depression and mental health in general is lacking in better words. Our emotions should not be a sign of weakness.
We have to remember to take care of ourselves. Many people -- including myself -- forget to do so. It's so easy to get caught up in the daily motion of our life that we forget about the most important person: ourself. It's important to maintain our happiness and well-being in life, no matter what. Our time here on Earth is short and we are never promised tomorrow.
