With the upcoming election coming closer to the horizon and the Democratic National Convention this week and the Republican National Convention last week, I thought I would shed some light on the whole conversation following the Melania Trump speech. If you haven’t seen the video yet, the speech clearly shows that Trump is using word for word sentences that Michelle Obama used in her 2008 speech. While this may seem like a coincidence, that is far from the truth. As many political figures and celebrities do, a writer as hired to write the speech that Melania Trump was to speak. The Trumps spent more than 36 hours trying to dismiss charges of plagiarism and actually revealed the name of the writer responsible for Melania’s speech.

Melania Trump made a statement before her speech that she wanted to write her speech with as little help as possible. Meredith McIver, a family friend and writer for the Trump organization, came out and said that she wrote to speech and used the phrases from Michelle Obama’s speech. McIver said that she asked Trump what she wanted to say and passages from the first lady’s speech were given because she wanted that kind of tone and her admired the first lady. Donald Trump said, “She made a mistake….we all make mistakes.”

Interestingly enough, another article was found where it implied that Meredith McIver is not a real person. As pointed out in the article, her page on everpeida.com was only 15 years old and her facebook is only a few days old and lacks the friends that one may exoect from a lifelong friend and employee of the Trump organization. All of the places in social media where a Meredith McIver can be found has either been recently made or lacks crucial information. The Trumps are not shy to using fake names to get out information or to take the fall. In the eighties and nineties, Donald Trump used pseudonyms to act as his own PR agent when contacting news outlets.

McIver is not even listed on the payroll of the Trump campaign. Whether Meredith McIver is real or not, the truth of the reality is that Melania Trump used Michelle Obama's own words in her speech without giving the first lady her due credit. Although mistakes do happen, this mistake blew up much bigger due to the outlet at which it was delivered at and the national broadcast it was shown on. With the upcoming Democratic National Convention this week, it will be a surprise to see if any action will be taken by any members of the Democratic party of the Obamas.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
