Meditation.
When many people hear this word, what is usually thought of is the stereotypical hippie, crossed legs, with wind chimes and incense. I'm here to tell you that only (maybe) one of this applies! Meditation does not have to be some big calculated commitment. Youtuber and minimalist Matt D'Avilla perfectly described the process of meditation in the first minute of his I meditated 1 hour every day for 30 days video. Just close your eyes, focus on your breath, block distractions, and you have meditated! If you can even find five minutes to do this simple task it will change your life! To testify these are some things mediation has personally done for me.
Less Distraction
Once I got into the groove of meditating this summer, I noticed that I became more focused than I've ever been. I could be doing class work and a simple text wouldn't gateway into surfing two hours on Twitter. I could simply reply, put my phone down and get back into what I was doing. Who wouldn't mind having that kind of willpower?
More Mindfulness
Mindfulness is a word that is commonly misinterpreted. The less distraction I encountered, the more I began to have daily checkups on myself. What I mean is that I could catch myself whenever I would be on my phone scrolling too long or catch myself stressing about something irrelevant. Once you can possess this skill, the rest of everyday will be more rewarding.
Happiness
Happiness is not a goal, it is a by-product. Following the previous two, meditation allowed me to be stress free and content by keeping myself less inattentive and more alert. This also carries out whenever you have free time. I would feel so proud of myself knowing that I accomplished everything that I planned out for the day. This gave me a sense of pride and gratitude. On my walks to class, I could take more time out to just watch and look how beautiful the day is. If there is no other benefit that could sell you, I can guarantee you meditation will make you gradually happier.
