The Game of Golf and The Game of Life

376

With The Masters going on this week, it brings to mind the truth to the game of golf.
The point of the game is to get your ball to the hole in the fewest number of strokes.  Life itself is a game that everyone plays, but no one knows how to play.  I've learned that the point of life is what you make of it.
Golf and life are very similar and a little different.  Bobby Jones once said, “Golf is the closest game to the game we call life. You get bad breaks from good shots; you get good breaks from good shots-but you have to play the ball where it lies.”  Basically the game of life is shown through the game of golf.  Sometimes in life when you do something good, it ends up with undesired consequences.  And sometimes when you do something bad, it ends up good.  In golf, you have to play the ball where it lies.  You can’t move it, no matter where it is.  It's the same thing in life; you are always exactly where you put yourself, exactly where you land. You can’t cheat your way out of it.  You have to find a way to get through it.  In golf, you don’t know where your ball will end up.  In life, oftentimes you find yourself in circumstances not knowing where you'll end up.

Both golf and life are mind games.  In golf, you have to use your brain to think through every shot and to control your emotions.  In life, you have to use your brain to think through everything you do and not let your nerves overtake you.  If you let your emotions control you, you will end up losing the game of golf and not succeeding in life, either.  In golf, one objective is to hit the ball into the fairway, not the rough.  If the ball is hit in the rough then you have to learn from your mistake and learn how to come back.  Just as in life, if you do something wrong, you have to come back in order to still play the game.  It reflects the cycle of life, no matter what you shoot, you come back the next day and begin all over again. Golf is played on specific courses made for the game, while life is played anywhere.  It doesn’t often have a set course.

The thing is not everybody plays the game of golf, but everybody plays the game of life. I've come to know that golf, like life, will never be mastered.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
