One of the biggest events in UFC history is almost upon us and I am freaking out just a tad bit. UFC 205 will be taking place in Madison Square Garden on November 12. If you haven't followed UFC or don't really care for it, this is a pretty big day. UFC/MMA just became legal in New York last year, so this will be the first ever event held in Madison Square Garden!
Who else but the Notorious Conor McGregor will be headlining? Of course they go for what will get most pay per views because the mouthy McGregor clearly sells with his skill and his attitude. I actually am pretty excited to see this bout and can't wait to see how Alvarez and McGregor go head to head. We have some upsets when it comes to other fighters this past month Jose Aldo, former champ who fought Notorious at 196, is talking about leaving the UFC due to the attention directed at McGregor. It's too early to say if this is for sure happening, but the way Aldo is talking makes it seem like a pretty big possibility.
The main card for this event is pretty stacked, and honestly so are the prelims! This really is a historic night for UFC and all of the fighters that get the chance to fights in MSG. This past weekend I also watched UFC 204, where the promo for 205 was finally released. I kid you not I got goosebumps.
Out of the three champions Joanna Jedrzejczyk is the only one to have defended her title. Tyron Woodly recently earned the welterweight (170) belt on July 30th at UFC 201 now defending it about four months later against rising star Stephen Thompson. And for the main event this will be the first title defense at lightweight (155) for Eddie Alvarez against Conor McGregor who also hasn't defended his featherweight (145) belt. Conor attempted to fight or the lightweight belt but was stopped when the former champion Rafael Dos Anjos (RDA) injured his foot forcing him out of the fight. Once RDA recovered he attempted to defend his belt against Eddie Alvarez instead and lost. If Conor were to win he would be the first to the champion in two different weight classes at the same time.
The UFC continues to show change and growth as an organization and definitely is not shy of going against the current. I feel like 205 will be a huge card for the UFC and all of the fans everywhere. I know I am definitely excited to see the outcome of all the fights next month. Even more exciting will be to see if George St. Pierre (GSP) makes his comeback at 206 like it is rumored. I will definitely be ready to cover that big event within the next few months.
