If you're on summer break and looking for something to keep you occupied AND here are a couple of things you can do in between hanging out with friends and family events.

1. Work

Now is the perfect time to gain experience in something you're interested in or plan to pursue. If you're looking for a job or an internship, websites like Snagajob and Indeed make it easier to find work in or near your area.

2. Volunteer

You can utilize your free time and make efforts towards a cause you care about or help out your community. Jersey Cares, a nonprofit organization has an online database for the areas within the state that they're working with. Here's their website: https://www.jerseycares.org

3. Get Your License/ Other Certifications/ Learn a New Skill

I have a little over two months before I go back to school. I want to learn how to drive and get my Heartsaver AED certification. You can focus on some personal goals for yourself or improve on a skill or habit you want to learn. Look for information within your community to find classes or find information that can benefit you with a short-term goal.

4. Take Summer Classes

If you can manage to do it, taking a couple of summer classes can benefit you if you're nearing graduation or want to get some classes out of the way. If you go to a state university, you can opt to go to community college for the summer. Talk with your University's Registration Office to see if you can take certain courses outside of the University. NJ Transfer helps you find the course equivalencies to ensure you whether or not your credits will be transferrable. However, you also need permission from the head of the department of your major; keep in communication with them to ensure that when you send your transcript from the other college, you can get credit.

5. Spend Time With Your Family

You can help out around the house or even plan something together as a family. Example: organize a garage sale or help with repairs/tasks needed for the house.
