I am the queen of doing/ saying the wrong things to guys during dates or social outings. I've put myself in situations that are completely awkward. Here are some things you should try to avoid while newly talking to a guy.

1. Showing up drunk to a first date

Usually, I take a shot or grab a drink on the first date to calm the nerves. Apparently, one time I had a little too much before I showed up, and let's just say I didn't hear from the guy after we got the check.

2. Lie about something

Whenever I go to bars, I tend to tell people the wrong age. Maybe it's because I don't want them knowing my real age, or sometimes I just honestly forget it. Typically I tell guys I am a year younger than what I actually am... whoops.

3. Have awkward pick up lines that don't make sense

One pick up line I have used before is, "Hey boy, what kind of salsa do you like?". It led to him saying something along the lines of him not liking salsa at all. I've also walked up to a guy and asked him if he was an organ donor, and clearly that didn't end up well.

4. Freak out while intoxicated

I know some people who freak out over the littlest things to their new guys while under the influence. All it does is make you look dumb the morning after when you're sending the apology text. My motto is to think before you drunk text!

5. Consistently on the phone

Literally no on likes to hang out with someone who is always on their phone. You don't need to be snap chatting or tweeting every little thing that goes on while you're out with a guy! Put the damn phone down and have an actual conversation.

6. Stage 5 clinger

I understand having a new guy may be exciting, but you can ruin it in an instant by texting/ calling him multiple times while he is busy. For sure a major deal breaker. Try to keep composure and assume the best as to why he hasn't replied.

7. Trying to make a guy jealous

We understand that you may have multiple guys interested in you, but don't go off and flaunt that to a guy who you've been talking to. It is a huge turn-off, and no one wants to be with someone like that.

8. Playing hard to get

Some girls believe that playing hard to get is the best way to get a guy interested in you, but in reality, it's annoying to guys plus it's not cute. No one likes to talk to someone who thinks they are too good to text back, or reply. Remain humble, and see how that goes.

9. Blow them off

A guy is willing to reschedule plans a couple times, but if you are always attempting to set a new date on the calendar, it gets old. If you want to hang with the guy, make it a priority or he will move on.

10. Hating on what is important to them

I've been in situations where guys have hating on things i've been passionate about, and it really makes you think about the potential future you have with someone. If he is passionate about something, you have to be supportive. You clearly can't express your true feelings due to the fact you can hurt his.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
