Today is the day you make a change. You are choosing to love yourself. This type of love is a love that continues to give. Loving yourself is sometimes a difficult concept, especially when you have to care for others. The more you appreciate yourself, the more you will be able to spread your love to someone else. Practicing self-love is not being egotistical or self-absorbed, it is recognizing that the ability to love oneself is important to personal growth. Here are a few tips to start you off on your journey to self-love:
1. Treating Yourself
Treating yourself does not always mean buying a million things you’ve always wanted. Treating yourself could be shaving your legs and getting into a bed with clean sheets, or calling a friend you haven’t talked to in awhile or reading your favorite book.
2. Complimenting Yourself
We give compliments out, why not give them to ourselves. Every time you walk past your reflection says one good thing about yourself. It does not always have to be about looks, it could also be about your personality.
3. Understanding Yourself
Getting too involved in other people’s problems can cause you to forget about yourself. Taking a step back and think about your ideas and activities that you enjoy, then go out and do it.
4. Encouraging Yourself
After examining the problems that are causing you to dislike things about you. Remember that love is forever growing. Even if you can only find one thing you enjoy about yourself now, a month from now, you would have found a way to love your flaws.
5. Discovering Yourself
Make a list of things you enjoy and things you always wanted to try. It can be your favorite foods, places you want to travel to or a different genre of music than the one you listen to now.
Whatever you may decide to do on your journey of self-love, make sure it makes you happy. There is power in loving oneself, a power that others will see shine through. A power that you have complete control over. Remember, this is a path for you, by you. A time to love every part of yourself, flaws and all.
