Finding a college roommate is comparable to online dating- but more intense. You have just a few conversations to find someone to live with. Ideally you want to find your best friend; however, more often than not that does not happen. Luckily for myself, I found my other half. Here are the top 10 things that make her such an amazing roommate.
1. Her Humor
No matter the situation, she always finds a way to make me laugh. College is all too stressful, but she makes it much more fun. From her, I learned, never take life too seriously. Whether it is 4am or 4pm we are always laughing.
2. Her Loyalty
She ALWAYS has my back. Even if I am wrong, she is there to stand up for me. Find a roommate you trust and trusts you. Living with someone is a totally new experience. You will learn a lot about each other, so find someone that will not defy you.
3. Her Spice for Life
She is never afraid to have fun. No matter what day of the week, she always is down to make the best of the day. Sometimes, being so far away from everything we know is hard, but with a little positivity life is never boring.
4. Her Motivation
Being both fun and motivated is harder than you think. She always reminds me to my homework and readings on Sunday afternoon, and attempts to make me hit the gym.
5. Her Genuine Nature
She never tries to be anything she is not. She wears sweatpants to morning classes and t shirts basically all the time. She reminds me it is not always about makeup and hair. Just being yourself is enough.
6. Her Love
Even when I get on her nerves and my hair gets stuck in the vacuum she still loves me. True friendship is characterized by how you treat one another at all times. Be inclusive, friendly, and go out of your way for each other.
7. Her Attitude Toward People
Luckily for us, we are both people persons. We love being around our friends at all times. We spend time with other people and most of the time together. There is always Bachelor Night in our room and late Saturday nights with at least 6 people packed in our room.
8. Her Way of Not Being Sensitive
She is a realist. She never lets me cry over boys, or irrational circumstances. She will call you on your bullshit and make you come down to Earth.
9. Her Closet
It always helps to find someone with great taste in clothes. I will never forget when i went to go meet a guy at Owens and she said, "you are not wearing that." Then, she threw me a blue t shirt.
10. She is My Best Friend
Going into college, I was so worried about making friends. I am so lucky to have her in my life. On top of being a roommate, she is my lunch partner, my shoulder to cry on, and my partner in crime. I can't wait to call you my roommate next year, too.
