Love is in the Small Things

There are a lot of things going wrong today and every day. Despite what you believe in and do not believe in, we can all agree: there's a lot of stuff that needs to be changed in the world. It's easy to get caught up in what's bad. But let's talk about what's good. There's an unbelievable, supernatural, monumental amount of good in this world. There's so much to keep going for. Seriously, let's shine a spotlight on the good things in life; here's a list to kickstart your thought process.

1. That minute before you're fully awake in the morning where you don't know who you are or what's going on
2. The burst of adrenaline that kicks in right after you finish exercising
3. The taste of fresh fruit
4. The first few bars of your favorite song
5. Sweatpants that are worn in juuuuuust the right amount
6. Coffee/tea/hot beverage that is hot but not scalding
7. Driving through a bunch of green lights in a row
8. Those little mini chocolate chips
9. Watching a really good show on Netflix for the first time
10. Re-watching a really good show on Netflix
11. Acing a test/quiz as a result of hard work
12. High-quality socks
13. A perfect, uncreased, blank piece of paper
14. Good hair days
15. Coloring books - they're super de-stressing, don't knock it 'till you try it
16. Winning an award, no matter how small
17. Late night chats with good friends
18. Finding extra money in your pants
19. Finding extra money in your bank account
20. Finding extra money on the ground (moral of this listicle: finding money is awesome)
21. Lounging outside when it's 75ºF and sunny
22. Laughing so hard that you can feel your stomach muscles working
23. The sound of leaves rustling
24. The smell of books
25. Doughnuts. All types, all brands.

The point of this exercise was to get good thoughts in my head - these are things that make me feel happy. At least once a week, if you try to think of a short list of things that make you feel happy, I guarantee you'll have a much better existence. Love hides in small and nondescript places. Good vibes, peeps!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
