A letter to myself:
Summer vacation is over –school is around the corner. As the days become numbered to the single digits, you look back on how your summer had been and see that it was one that you had not expected.
For once in your life, you attempted to become productive and social. You did not want to become an introverted couch potato again like all of those other summers. You wanted to hang out with friends –old and new, have stories to share once you return to school, and just overall be happy. However, your plans didn’t go exactly as expected.
For one thing, you managed to hang out with friends old and new. You even went to your first wedding in years. However, your plan included some quality time with even more people, including family members and more friends, and that part wasn’t a success. You even managed to work at your second home in the world, summer camp. This year seemed different than the rest. It was possibly because it was your tenth summer coming to camp. It may have been because you knew the routine of life as a counselor. Maybe it was the part where your plans were altered due to suffering from a sore throat and earache for four weeks, or even your car being in desperate need of repair.
Speaking of the car, you did drive it an awful lot this summer. The first third of the summer was spent on the car going well over 200 miles at the very least. The transmission repair came at a surprise, though it was one that would inevitably come. The incident itself brought you closer to 5 new people who became close friends to you.
However, the time following camp and your birthday seemed off because of the car. It became more of a priority and burden that you didn’t want to drive it as much anymore. You ended up being the introverted couch potato that you feared you would become. You just didn't have enough motivation. Luckily, in the weeks following, things managed to pull through quite well; more so than you think; Many surprises developed that gave summer the decent ending it deserved.
In the end, the summer brought with it those stories that you wanted to share once school went back in session. You're back on campus, as sociable and extroverted as you are than at home. You look forward to meeting not only old friends, but new ones as well.
To Summer 2016: You have been one with many developments. You came with blessings, curses, new music, and started a new decade for me, and despite all of the hardships that's happened, let’s hope that next summer will offer even more.
