The costumes, parties, and ~spooky vibes~ were great, but now we're in the home stretch! Here are a few things we can look forward to get us to the end of the semester!
1. Mariah Carey's high note
I don't know about everybody else, but November 1st starts the holiday excitement for me! It's time to play that Christmas music, buy those presents, and start decorating! My personal favorite way to kick it off is changing my alarm clock to the song that gets me more hype than any party song. And that of course, is "All I Want for Christmas is You"! Those bells and Mariah Carey's famous high-note (no not the live one, thank god), make it slightly easier to get out of bed.
2. Mashed potatoes
The countdown to Thanksgiving has begun! Most people don't skip right to Christmas like me, but I will say the thought of pounds of mashed potatoes makes my mouth water. Not to mention the break from school and some good ol' family time.
3. Shopping
Buying presents for friends and family is DEFINITELY the best part of the season! Getting creative and thinking outside of the box is key to being a great gift-giver. Even on a college budget, making homemade presents will probably make your parents, grandparents, and friends feel just as loved. Or, you could just go for it and be an aggressive Black Friday shopper, which I'm not too good at. But if you can get an apple watch or laptop for 75% off...10/10 highly recommend.
4. SNOW
Snowball fights and cancelled class (hopefully) are just around the corner! For all you out of state students from California, Florida, or all the warm places in between, get ready to bundle up!
5. Even BIGGER sweaters
Scrubbing in style is the only way to leave your room in the winter. Just scrubbing is great too, but big sweaters are the comfiest articles of clothing, and don't require any effort at all. So if you're looking to spice up your usual sweats and hoodie, just wear a huge sweater and leggings and you're scrubbing in style.
6. The BALL
The ball drop! The New Year's one, of course. No matter what your plans are, we all know counting down to the New Year is the best way to let go of all the shitty stuff that happened the past year. Making resolutions is super motivating, and maybe sticking to them would be a good idea this time (@ myself).
7. Being forced to make friends on the CATA
If you don't want the CATA drivers to turn your ass away and make you trudge through the snow, you better be ready to get nice and cuddled up to all your fellow passengers. The best way to make this slightly less awkward is making a friend out of it and laughing at all of your misfortune together.
8. Daily hot chocolate
Pumpkin spice lattes are still acceptable for a while, but there is nothing like a toasty mug of hot chocolate next to a fireplace. Or a candle for those of us, well most of us, that live in tiny rooms on campus. Whether you're a marshmallow or whipped cream person, or maybe both, we all love a good cup of cocoa. If you don't, you've been making it wrong.
9. Not having to do your hair
Bad hair day? You have every excuse in the world to put on a winter hat that covers your head and nearly all of your hair. No, you don't even have to take it off during class. If you have messy, curly hair like me, you really appreciate this time of year.
10. This sweet spot right between midterms and finals
If you don't overthink this one too much, it's exciting! But truthfully this sweet spot doesn't last too long, so get those google docs started and study (eventually). You got this!
11. And it's never too early to get hype for SPRING BREAK
Whether you're going home, to a beach, or halfway across the world, it is NEVER too early to get excited for spring break! It is definitely a necessity to make healthy eating and working out New Year's Resolutions if you're counting down to a vacation, so let's get this gluten-free organic bread!
