Living in Pullman (as told by Grey’s Anatomy)

You do not know what it is like living in Pullman, Washington until you really lived in Pullman, Washington. There’s the good and the bad to living in a small college town. You either love it or hate it, seriously. Some people just can’t take the Pullman lifestyle so they will decide to transfer, no judgement here. But others cannot wait to come back for another adventurous semester. Here are the perks and downers of living in the promise land.

Walking up the hills every day is a pain in the a**- Every time when you walk up those hills, you try and hold your breath so other people around you do not notice how hard you are breathing and how bad you are struggling. On the bright side, you are working those leg muscles.

Moscow is the Holy Grail- Moscow comes in clutch for so many reasons. For the ladies, the Moscow mall becomes our retail therapy when we need it. For everyone in Pullman (21+ of course), the alcohol is just so much better when it is cheaper.

Tuesdays are cheap- Taco Tuesdays, Stubby Tuesdays, and Dollar Scoop Tuesdays. If you’re not munching hard on a Tuesday night then you’re missing out.

When the sun is out, EVERYONE is out-Especially during March and April; it is like people have never seen the sun before. Do not even think about concentrating on school on a sunny Friday afternoon. Music will be bumping from Greek row starting at noon, guaranteed.

The weather is wack- Pullman weather is bipolar. You can leave for class wearing a parka in the morning and end your day wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Snow to rain to sun to hail, make up your mind Pullman.

You appreciate food so much more- When you think Red Bento is the best Asian food and McDonalds is the best fast food; that is when you know Pullman really changed you.

There’s always something going on from Thursday-Saturday- People thinks that living in a small college town is boring, wrong. Pullman never disappoints when it comes to the weekend.

Weather does not influence us- It does not matter if it is 30 degrees or 80 degrees, you will see lovely ladies of Pullman in shorts and skirts and lovely gents in shorts and t-shirts.

Spokane feels like a whole new world- When you are in Pullman for more than a month or two and go to Spokane for a day trip, wow. Spokane feels like you are out of this world and you act like you’ve never been in a city before.

When people from other school visit WSU, they can’t hang – Come see for yourself. People don’t believe it but you can tell the out of towners and the Pullman natives especially during the Apple Cup and Halloweek.

You are in cougar country- The second you enter Pullman, you are surrounded by crimson and gray. Everywhere you go, you can expect a fellow coug. The spirit of this town is incomparable. GO COGS.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
